What is Kidspiration?

     Kidspiration is the visual way to explore and understand, words, numbers,and concepts. Kidspiration provides a cross-curricular visual workspace for K-5 learners. Students use visual tools combining pictures, text, numbers and spoken words to develop vocabulary, word recognition, comprehension, reasoning and problem solving skills. Kidspiration works the way students think and learn and the way teachers teach. As students make visual connections, they build fundamental skills in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Kidspiration offers activities in all curriculum areas, so students use visual learning naturally and confidently.

What Kidspiration offers?

Well, Kidspiration offers three different views to help students to develop their skills.

These views are:

In Picture view students can create maps, diagrams, webs, and Venn diagrams.

In Writing view students can expand their ideas into written expressions.

In Math view students use visual math tools to understand essential math concepts.

How would I use Kidspiration in the classroom?

     Kidspiration can be used across the curriculum and is designed for use by young children, which makes it ideal for anything from entire class instruction to small-group and independent computer center activities. It operates on the foundation of a visually learning approach.

Teachers can use a digital projector to project a computer screen for the entire class to see as a brainstorming session develops. As student ideas are shared the teacher can easily add their suggestions to the concept map. Small groups of students can work at a computer center to organize a cooperative research project or teachers can use the software as a means to individualize assignment.

Uses in classroom:

* Concept mapping

* Focus ideas

* Easy to understand

* Used as visual to teach students

* Pictures or text

* Very organized

* Easy to create

* Students can show understanding of material

Kidspiration helps students to:

* Develop strong thinking skills

* Strengthen literacy skills

* Build conceptual understanding in math

Student Practicing Kidpiration

                    Provides support for ELL and ESL Students

     For ELL and ESL learners in grades K-5, vocabulary building is critical for reading and writing proficiency, the core of academic success. Kidspiration uses proven visual learning strategies to build students' vocabulary and English comprehension with the integrated Picture and Writing Views, the Word Guide, longer audio recording capacity and expanded symbol search and libraries.

Here are some opinions of students after using Kidspiration:

"I REALLY liked the fact that I could work at my own pace, in my own home, without the hassle of buying books and materials. I also liked the frequent communication from my peers and professor. It made my first online course experience a good one. I also liked how the class was laid out so that we always knew where we were going and EXACTLY what was expected of us. "

"I learned so much about what other teachers are doing and what they are discovering about Inspiration software! Most of all, I learned some interesting tricks about using the software that I would have never figured out on my own!"
